My experiments with NSS

Hello folks! I am writing a bit too infrequently nowadays but the summer heat has made me too lazy. However, I found some time this May to do something for the society. Of course, the NSS work began with the lust of hours and the aim to complete them soon enough. But what I saw during those visits, I guess that really got me involved. Let us see how...

That was a day that really had me turned
I was just thinking about some petty hours
But when I went for the field work
The sights i saw
simply made my heart churn

I went over to Rohini
musing over a wasted day
but what i saw there
I forgot to be bored
and made my eyes somewhat runny

I just though it to be some stupid job
But when I saw those houses
(if you could call them so)
I was like, my God
there's nothing here even to rob

Those people out there
what they were facing i hope none do
they didn't even  qualify as poor
they were miserable
cos some of them didn't even own a freaking chair

They had managed themselves a shelter
but i couldn't even dream of living in them
cos not only were they unhygenic,
in some cases, even a dog's 'home'
seemed a lot better

And there lives were even worse
some were old abandoned parents
other with no eyesight or maybe no ears
some even had crippled sons to support
it seemed as if they had been given a curse

But despite all these sights
the strangest seems the fact

that although they said nothing about their lives
their eyes seemed to plead
they seemed to beg for someone to free them from their plights

But well, who cares for them right
we have our own life to handle
clear exams, get good jobs etc...
but now these problems seem stupid
cos now i see the world in a new light

Our problems are not worth the issue
we cry over lost marks or opportunities
but they don't cry over their lives
they have a right but they don't
rather they silently wipe their tears off a tissue

so once in a while, moving away from us
we need to lend them a hand
They may have got themselves a roof
but believe me a 'thela' is no home
and that's not what anybody deserves

the shelf of their happiness can be filled
but it requires a little help from you
just remember the motto
'service before self'
and I'm sure one day they'll have a filled shelf

1) It really was an enlightening trip down to those slums. A hearty thanks to Arushi and Lovejeet for that.
2) It really gives you peace to know that you could help the society in some way. So please contribute.

prepaid वालों का दर्द

This post was intended a long time back and refers to my old days of 11th and 12th when i used to here this phrase quite too often " तू क्या जाने prepaid वालों का दर्द". This post is dedicated to all those whose balance I wasted without realising the state of their hearts...

Ah, i still remember those times
that I spent on the phone
chatting away merrily
not realising for once that it was the other one who had called
until they finished the call coldly
when they were finally angered
saying " तू क्या जाने prepaid वालों का दर्द "

Ah, i still remember those times
i never understood what was the problem
no one retaliated to long calls when i was the caller
but they cut it short when it was their turn
until i was made to realise that it was the plans that differ
when my pondering they answered
saying " तू क्या जाने prepaid वालों का दर्द "

Ah, i still remember those times
when the difference was finally sinking in
but even then i chatted along
as it was now all the more fun
cos i knew i was doing wrong
by leaving their balance simply shattered
saying " अब मैं जानता हूँ prepaid वालों का दर्द " :P

No Tobacco Day - Please Quit Smoking

Its been a really long time since I had last scribbled on this notepad. Its been quite an eventful 2nd semester at IITD about which I will tell you soon. As for today, I thought I might republish my earlier poem as an appeal for people to quit smoking. So here it goes dedicated to all the smokers reading it...

Smokers say कि सुट्टे से मिलती है ख़ुशी
but what they don't realise is
कि सुट्टा मारने के बाद
वो  हो  जाते हैं थोड़े pushy,
थोड़े  agressive, थोड़े  moody

Smokers say कि सुट्टे से मिलता है मज़ा
but what they don't realise is
कि उनके पास वालों के लिए
उनका धुआं बन जाता है सज़ा
and they get cancer as a जज़ा

Smokers say कि सुट्टे से मिटती है उनकी भूंक
but what they don't realise is
कि धुआं जब अन्दर जाता है
तो अन्दर का सब जाता है सूख
in your every deadly फूँक

smokers say कि सुट्टा छोड़ा नहीं जाता
but what they don't realise is
कि उसे छोड़ना है ज़रूरी
इसीलिए मैं  ये message हूँ लाता
कि हो determination तो बंदा सुट्टे को ज़रूर छोड़ है पाता

please understand my message

cos what you do have to realise is
that smoking kills and leaving it
will definitely increase your age
says medical books' every page

1) Currently in my 2 and a half month vacation from college. Hope to blog more in the coming days. :)
2) Even if a single person reading this poem quits smoking, I will count that as my success

The eyes that said everything

Quiet like to my previous post(and exceptionally coincidental), I encountered another pair of eyes with a slight difference - the difference lied in the fact that these said everything that maybe could be said by words alone. They proved that 'Actions do speak louder than words' ...

Our plans were a bit different
We were waiting for something to start
But what actually started was not
For what we had come with our heart

But still, we thought of giving it a shot
And sit back and enjoy the act
So we did view the performance

Which was not initially in out pact

And gosh, it was really worth the chance
Cos what we saw amazed us to no level
The rhythmic feet and the perfect hands
And The eyes which were really a marvel

And then began the story of some other lands
Other lands I may be saying
But each and every bit was clear as crystal
as if the eyes were with our minds playing

Nothing could be more subtle
Each and every emotion clearly portrayed
Which added to the story's richness
And dazed by those eyes our heads swayed

The eyes had given the story harness
Which controlled its path throughout

So that the toughest of toughest scenes
Could be clearly depicted without a doubt

The eyes moved like fast machines

Capable of achieving any task
But they had the human touch
And hence there was nothing more for us to ask

Our knowledge of the talent was zero as such

But still every part of it seemed known
The credit goes to those wonderful eyes
Which said everything they wanted to, alone

PS
1) A complete coincidence that I actually saw these 2 opposite pair of 'talking' eyes :)
2) The above mentioned eyes were of 'Rama Vaidyanathan' who left us spellbound by her breath taking Bharatnatyam performance at IIT Delhi.

The eyes trying to say something

Those big, round eyes have completely put me under a spell. Like its popularly said उसने अपनी आखों से जादू कर डाला. I can spend my whole day gazing into them trying to understand what they want to say to me.
But whose eyes am I talking about? Let me tell you....

Those eyes, really big ones
Hoping on hope that someone would understand.
Eyes trying to say it all sometimes with the assistance of a hand

Big, bright and beautiful
Is how his eyes look to me
Gazing holding some mystery

Eyes show clearly that they want to tell you something
Yet no one seems to understand him
Eager to tell his small stories
Sounds start accompanying his eyes' whim

O' god, it really hurts me to an extent great
For I can't see him so desperate

Time passes by but he can't explain
How to tell the big ones my words
Eying all around in search of a method in vain

Little by little we do comprehend a bit
I say what his actons upon my mind hit
Then slowly slowly he starts smiling
That's when he indicates that we've got the thing
Little though it maybe but finally those
Eyes could say their poetry or prose

But who is this, about whom I don't tire writing about
O dear readers its my new cousin just 2 months old
Year it will take at least before his stories can actually be told

When the clock strikes 11:55

Its been really a long time since  last wrote here. In fact its been 2 months now. I'm into my mid sem break now. Hope you are eager to here more because I'm extremely eager to write some words on this casual notepad of mine. So here goes a small poem which is attached very deeply to the life of all Computer Science people here at IITD.....

As the clock approaches 11:55
All our bodily functions seem to speed up
Our fingers move on the keypad
as bees in a beehive
when the clock approaches 11:55

As the clock approaches 11:55
the heart seems to fluuter loudly
as if dancing to the jive
when the clock approaches 11:55

As the clock approaches 11:55
our mind seems to think much better
and the ideas come out much faster
and into a world of algos* we dive
when the clock approaches 11:55

As the clock approaches 11:55
and we find ourselves unable to fight
we roam about here and there
to find an assignment on which we could thrive
when the clock approaches 11:55

As the clock slowly ticks to 11:55
and the assignment is finally complete
we quicly submit it and thank god
that we could survive
when the clock finally strikes 11:55

Farewell!!!

No friends, I'm not going away. The title indicates my farewell from home as I'm going back to college tomorrow :). It also indicates a temporary break from frequent blogging. But nevertheless, this is not the last words that you'll get from me :P

It hurts to say goodbye
But I've to go back to IIT
where time just seems to fly
doing some work and study
and at the same time doing bakaiti

It hurts to say hasta la vista
But I've to go back to IIT
near which we have a barista
where we spend some time free
over a cup of tea or coffee

It hurts to bid farewell
But I've to go back to IIT
where we experience both heaven and hell
because it has both the hostel मस्ती
and the pressure of getting a good CG*

But all I hope that all goes great
in this new semester , this new year
I'll definitely try to bring my CG to 8
so that I won't always have to fear
and end another semester in tear.

MMXI

Well, the googlers might have figured out my title easily but for those who didn't, its the roman representation for 2011 (as potrayed in google's latest doodle). So here's me wishing all of my readers a very Happy and Prosperous new year...

Here's wishing you all a Happy New Year
As usual, time just flew by without us knowing
Passing away all in a whirlwind
Possibly for me one of the most life changing
Year 2010 saw me swim through tests as if I was finned

Much more work lies ahead of me this year
More tasks need to be finished, but
Xperience of 2010 was something full of both fun and fear
In which I had both ranks and party cakes waiting to be cut

This year I should be making a resolution to study
O God, but that's what in 2010 I did in plenty

A. Tayal now craves for a change from the hectic routine
Looms ahead a great trouble for me if I go for the change, but
Lies in the change, the way of life that's the best for a teen :D
